How RainSoft sells

  • RainSoft offers a free in-home water test: a water treatment expert visits, tests the tap water, explains the results and recommends products. Submitting the form sends the request to RainSoft, and an independent RainSoft dealer may contact you. (in-home appointment (manufacturer, read on 2026-10-04))
  • Home Depot sells installed water treatment from RainSoft, EcoWater, Puronics and Kinetico, starting with a free in-home water test it offers to arrange. (in-home appointment (retailer, read on 2026-10-04))
  • The FTC Cooling-Off Rule gives buyers three days to cancel covered sales made at home, including when they invite a salesperson in. The right lasts until midnight of the third business day, and the seller must refund within 10 days. Home sales under $25 are excluded. (cancellation (government, read on 2026-10-04))

What a comparable softener costs by other routes

As of 2026-10-04, a 32,000-grain softener in the United States costs $876 as equipment you install yourself (priced on 2026-10-04), $1,029–$1,305 through an independent installer (modelled from manufacturer prices and federal wage data) and $3,224–$15,000 through a national dealer brand (n = 43 documented quotes across the dealer brands, read on 2026-10-04).

These are the national figures from the water softener cost answer, not a RainSoft price. To price the first two routes for your own ZIP code, household and site, use the cost estimator.

RainSoft certification listings

As of 2026-10-05, our certification index holds 33 active listings we can attribute to RainSoft, from NSF International and WQA Gold Seal: 28 of them under NSF/ANSI 44 (residential cation-exchange water softeners), all from NSF International.

28 of those listings are held by Aquion, Inc. and credited to RainSoft because each listed model matches a RainSoft model named in RainSoft's own documents.

Aquion, Inc. holds 55 other listings; we could not match them to RainSoft models.

Listings by standard and certifier: NSF/ANSI 44 (NSF International 28).

Materials listings, which certify what a component is made of rather than anything it reduces: NSF/ANSI 372 (WQA Gold Seal 5).

The NSF/ANSI 44 listings name these reductions: Barium, Hardness, Radium 226/228.

Our index reads only the IAPMO R&T, NSF International and WQA Gold Seal directories (read: NSF International on 2026-10-05, WQA Gold Seal on 2026-10-04, IAPMO R&T on 2026-08-23) and not CSA Group, ICC or UL Solutions, so a listing missing from it is not evidence that RainSoft holds none.

How long it lasts, and the RainSoft warranty

1 source we hold gives a service life for softeners in general, not for one brand: a water softener as a whole unit lasts 10 to 15 years, according to a government source read on 2026-10-04.

Service life (government, read on 2026-10-04)

RainSoft’s warranty, as its own documents state it: Limited lifetime warranty to the first retail purchaser: treatment tank, valve, salt container, electrical components and Ion-X resins against manufacturing defects. Contingent on returning a signed owner's registration card. Excludes labor and installation; replacement parts are furnished for a nominal charge covering labor, handling, packing and any retail-price increase.
