Talk through your water with a specialist, free

Our data tells you what your water system reported. It cannot tell you what to do about your house — and for some findings, notably lead from your own plumbing, no published data can. A half-hour conversation with someone who installs treatment for a living often settles that faster than a week of reading.

What happens

   You give a phone number

   The booking form asks for a mobile number and sends a code to it. That is the only thing standing between the form and a specialist's diary, and it is there so the calls that get booked are calls someone meant to book.

   You pick a time

   A calendar shows open slots and you choose one. Nothing is charged, and there is no card field.

   The specialist calls you

   The conversation is about your water and what, if anything, is worth treating. If you came from one of our city pages, the flagged findings from that page are attached to the booking, so the call does not start from nothing.

   You decide, or you do not

   There is no obligation at any point. Plenty of households have nothing in their record that warrants treatment, and that is a legitimate outcome of the call.

What the call is not for

• It is not a test. No sample is taken on a phone call. If you want to know what is actually at your tap, a state-certified laboratory is the answer, and we list them free.
• It is not medical advice. Questions about a specific health condition belong with a clinician, not with a treatment specialist and not with us.
• It is not the only way to get an answer. Everything we publish stays free — your city's own results, every contaminant we hold data on and the certified filters that address particular findings. Read those first; the call is for when reading has run out.

Questions

Is the call really free?

Yes. There is no charge for the consultation and no card details are collected to book it. We are paid a share of a sale only if you go on to buy treatment from the specialist, which is why the call itself costs nothing.

Who am I actually talking to?

Victor, the water-treatment specialist we partner with. He is not a TapWaterData employee and he is not a doctor. He works with households across the US.

Will I be sold something?

He sells water treatment, and he is paid when someone buys it — so treat the call as a conversation with someone who has an interest in the answer, and bring your own data to it. Our city pages, contaminant pages and hardness data are free, stay free, and are the right thing to read first.

Is this a water test?

No. Nobody samples your water on a call. If your question is what is actually coming out of your tap — which is the only way to know about lead from your own plumbing — a certified laboratory test is the answer, and we list state-certified labs for free.

What happens to my phone number?

It goes to the booking system so the specialist can call you, and it is not published anywhere on this site. We do not put a phone number, a name or an address on any page.
