Does the AquaTru Under Sink need electricity?
No — it does not need a mains outlet. The reverse osmosis itself runs on your household line pressure. The auto shut-off leak detector needs no power at all: AquaTru’s installation video calls it “a purely mechanical device. No batteries, no power required” — it is plumbed inline on the cold supply, and a compressed cotton pad inside expands when it gets wet, snapping a valve shut and cutting off water to the system. The component that does take power is the filter manifold, which the same video calls “the brain of your system”: you open its battery cover and insert three AA batteries, or plug into its USB-C port if there happens to be an outlet under the sink. AquaTru describes the second generation’s leak detection and filter-change alerts as working “all without requiring a power source”.

Can I use the AquaTru Under Sink on well water?

Only with conditions, and two of them are about arsenic. AquaTru's certified arsenic claim covers pentavalent arsenic at or below 50 ppb, and the data sheet says the system is to be used on supplies that carry a detectable free chlorine residual at the inlet or that have been shown to contain only pentavalent arsenic — a chloramine residual is not sufficient to convert trivalent arsenic. That condition is harder to settle on a well: the data sheet's Arsenic Facts section says arsenic in well water may be pentavalent, trivalent or a combination of both, that reverse osmosis does not remove trivalent arsenic well, and that the ATU200 will not convert trivalent arsenic itself, so establishing which form is present takes a lab using special sampling procedures. Beyond arsenic, well water still has to sit inside the same inlet limits as any other supply: up to 10 gpg hardness, 1,500 mg/L TDS, sulphide, iron and manganese below 0.1 mg/L, turbidity no higher than 5 NTU, and pH between 3 and 11. And the system is not a disinfection device, so water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality needs adequate disinfection before or after it.
Will the AquaTru Under Sink fit in my cabinet?
It is two pieces, and AquaTru publishes both. The filter manifold with filters installed measures 11 in x 11 in x 4 in, and the storage tank is 10 in in diameter by 14 in high. AquaTru does not label which of the manifold's three figures is height, width or depth, so plan around the largest footprint. The manifold can rest flat on the cabinet floor or be wall-mounted with brackets sold separately, and you also need room at the lowest point of the cabinet for the leak detector, which has to sit completely flush with the cabinet floor to work.
Does the AquaTru Under Sink use the same filters as the AquaTru Classic countertop?
Yes. AquaTru sells one set of cartridges for the Classic, the Connect and the Under Sink, and each filter product page carries the line 'For AquaTru Classic, Connect & Under Sink models'. On 2026-09-03 those were $29.95 for the Pre/Carbon Filter, $59.95 for the Reverse Osmosis Filter and $39.95 for the VOC Carbon Filter, which works out at about $129.83 a year on AquaTru's intervals.
