Our verdict on the Frigidaire FPPWFU01

The Frigidaire PurePour PWF-1 (FPPWFU01) is the OEM push-in cartridge for the 40 refrigerators on Frigidaire's own compatibility list, rated 0.65 gpm and 125 gallons or six months, and as of 2026-09-03 IAPMO R&T lists it to NSF/ANSI 42, NSF/ANSI 53 and NSF/ANSI 401 — PFOA/PFOS and microplastics included. Frigidaire's own pages call it "NSF & WQA certified", but a same-day search of NSF's Drinking Water Treatment Units directory returned no listing for the model, the brand or Electrolux; the reduction claims rest on IAPMO R&T, an equivalent certifier to NSF, and WQA's listing is for sustainability under WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-803.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Best for

  • Owners of one of the 40 refrigerators on Frigidaire's published PurePour PWF-1 compatibility list who want the cartridge the IAPMO R&T listings actually name.
  • Households on potable municipal water between 30 and 100 psi that want certified lead, cyst, VOC and PFOA/PFOS reduction at the refrigerator's water and ice dispenser.
  • Buyers who want the pharmaceutical and microplastic claims: the NSF/ANSI 401 certificate lists atenolol, bisphenol A, estrone, ibuprofen, naproxen, nonylphenol, phenytoin, trimethoprim and microplastics.

Not for

  • Water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the filter — Frigidaire's Performance Data Sheet prohibits it, and the cyst certification covers only disinfected water that may contain filterable cysts.
  • Supplies outside 30–100 psi or 33–100°F, or installations where ambient temperature can exceed 110°F, all of which Frigidaire's Performance Data Sheet rules out.
  • Anyone wanting softening or scale control: no hardness, softening or scale claim appears on Frigidaire's Performance Data Sheet or on any of the four IAPMO R&T certificates that list FPPWFU01.
  • Refrigerators absent from Frigidaire's compatibility list, and any tap other than the refrigerator's own dispenser — this cartridge sits inside one appliance and treats only the water that appliance dispenses.

What the Frigidaire FPPWFU01 does not do

Frigidaire's Performance Data Sheet for the PurePour PWF-1 says: "DO NOT use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after use of the system." Its cyst certification extends only to disinfected water that may contain filterable cysts. The Frigidaire FPPWFU01's recorded operating limits are Water pressure at least 30 psi and up to 100 psi, Water temperature at least 33 °F and up to 100 °F, Ambient temperature at the installation up to 110 °F, Service flow up to 0.65 gpm, Throughput before replacement up to 125 gallons, verified 2026-09-03.

  • No hardness, scale or water-softening claim appears anywhere on Frigidaire's Performance Data Sheet, and none of the four IAPMO R&T certificates that list FPPWFU01 carries one. This cartridge is not a softener and will not reduce scale.[1][2]

    Primary sourceVerified 2026-09-03Manufacturer datasheetIAPMO listing

  • There is no fluoride, nitrate, nitrite, arsenic or chromium claim on Frigidaire's Performance Data Sheet or on any of the four IAPMO R&T certificates that list FPPWFU01.[1][2]

    Primary sourceVerified 2026-09-03Manufacturer datasheetIAPMO listing

  • It treats only the water one refrigerator dispenses as chilled water and ice. It is a cartridge that seats inside the appliance, not a point-of-entry or under-sink filter, so no other tap in the home is affected.[1][2]

    Primary sourceVerified 2026-09-03IAPMO listingBrand official

  • It does not fit every Frigidaire refrigerator, and Frigidaire's own cartridges are not all interchangeable. IAPMO R&T's certificates list FPPWFU01, FPPWFU02, EPTWFU01, EPPWFU01, WFPTU26, WF3CB, WF2CB and ULTRAWF as separate models with separate replacement components. Frigidaire's own published data confirm EPTWFU01 is a physically different cartridge from the PWF-1: its Works With These Models list names 49 refrigerators and shares none with FPPWFU01's 40-model list, and Frigidaire records EPTWFU01's installation action as “Push & Twist,” not the PWF-1's “Push to lock.” FPPWFU02, by contrast, overlaps FPPWFU01's own compatibility list on at least two refrigerator models (GRMN2872AF, GRMS2773AF), so the family is not cleanly separated by shape or generation. One r/WaterFilters commenter adds, unverified beyond the EPTWFU01 case this record can independently confirm, that “frigidaire's run like four totally different filter shapes over the years (WF3CB, ULTRAWF, EPTWFU01, and the PWF-1).” The failure mode an owner actually reported in that thread was buying a filter matched to the refrigerator's own model number at a big-box store, which did not fit; the replying commenter explained that retailer cross-reference charts “match them to model numbers sloppily” and advised pulling the old cartridge and reading the part number printed on it directly, since “that's the only number that matters, ignore the fridge model.”[1][2][3][4][5]

  • Frigidaire does not publish a filtration medium or a micron rating for this cartridge. Its Performance Data Sheet refers only to "adsorption media" without naming it, so no claim about the medium can be made here.[1][2]

Do not buy it for these situations

  • Well waterA private well that has not been disinfected or whose quality is unknown is exactly the case Frigidaire's Performance Data Sheet rules out: do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system. The same data sheet's Conditions of Use also require potable water as the feed. Disinfection alone only addresses microbiological safety — a well that is disinfected but chemically out of spec (elevated nitrate or arsenic, for example) is still outside the rated envelope. Disinfected, potable well water within 30–100 psi and 33–100°F is what's covered.[1]

    Primary sourceVerified 2026-09-10Manufacturer datasheet

  • Water pressureBelow 30 psi the cartridge is outside Frigidaire's rated conditions; above 100 psi exceeds what Frigidaire says the system will withstand, under a WARNING that failure to follow all guides and rules could cause personal injury or property damage. Check static pressure at the refrigerator's supply before buying if the house runs on a booster pump or an unregulated main.[1]

What owners praise

  • Fit is the strongest praise in Amazon's own review summary: customers report the filter “fits perfectly in their refrigerators,” with one noting it's a genuine Frigidaire part with no leaks. Of the two attributes Amazon currently surfaces for this listing, Fit skews far more positive (151 positive, 13 negative of 164 mentions) than Value for money (126 positive, 112 negative of 238 mentions).[1]

    Secondary sourceVerified 2026-09-10Amazon review

  • One reviewer (verified purchase, 2026-07-25) reports consistent flow with no clogging after buying this filter for several years, replacing it every 6 months as recommended; a separate reviewer (verified purchase, 2026-06-10) says they can notice the difference in the taste of the water.[1]

    Secondary sourceVerified 2026-09-10Amazon review

  • Two verified-purchase reviewers independently describe the swap as easy: one says “Installation was a breeze, requiring no special tools or expertise” (2024-04-11), another simply calls it “Easy to install and uninstall” (2026-06-21) — both consistent with Frigidaire's own push-to-lock procedure.[1]

    Secondary sourceVerified 2026-09-10Amazon review

What owners complain about

  • A recurring and unresolved failure is a brand-new cartridge that will not latch. In an r/appliancerepair thread titled "Frididaire PurePour PWF-1 New Filter Not Clicking In", posted 2024-09-08, the original poster reports that three cartridges from one four-pack all slide in but never lock, while the old cartridge still seats perfectly; a commenter replying about fifteen months later, on 2025-11-30, says they have been trying to work it out for a year. Frigidaire publishes no troubleshooting step for it.[1]

    Secondary sourceVerified 2026-09-10Reddit thread

  • Value for money is where the current review corpus splits, not filter life or taste. Amazon's own summary of the FPPWFU01 reviews reports that customers have mixed opinions about cost, “with some finding it the best value while others aren't impressed with the price” — the Value for money attribute Amazon surfaces draws nearly as many negative mentions as positive (126 positive, 112 negative of 238 total).[1]

    Secondary sourceVerified 2026-09-10Amazon review

  • The push-to-release mechanism can seize. An owner of an FRSS2323AS8 — a refrigerator in the same FRSS2323AS family as one on Frigidaire's compatibility list — describes a cartridge that would not budge when pushed to release; the advice in-thread is that these filters can be very stiff and that shutting the supply off and pressing the dispenser paddle relieves line pressure first.[1]

    Secondary sourceVerified 2026-09-03Reddit thread

  • Buyers routinely cannot tell which Frigidaire cartridge their refrigerator takes. In an r/WaterFilters thread, an owner reports buying a filter at a big-box store that did not fit and being unable to identify the right one on frigidaire.com; a commenter identifies the PurePour PWF-1 / FPPWFU01 and points out that Frigidaire has shipped several different filter shapes over the years.[1]

The Frigidaire FPPWFU01 against its family and its rivals

The Frigidaire FPPWFU01 has 7 siblings in its family: FPPWFU02 (PurePour Connect PWF-2), EPTWFU01 (PureSource Ultra II), WFPTU26 (PurePour WFPT), EPPWFU01 (PureAdvantage PWF-1), WF3CB (PureSource 3), ULTRAWF (PureSource Ultra), WF2CB (PureSource2 NGFC-2000).

The rest of the family

ModelWhat differs
FPPWFU02 (PurePour Connect PWF-2)The other current PurePour cartridge, same 0.65 gpm and 125-gallon rating. Its own compatibility list overlaps FPPWFU01's on at least two refrigerators (GRMN2872AF, GRMS2773AF), so the two are not cleanly separated by refrigerator family — check your exact model against Frigidaire's list before buying either.
EPTWFU01 (PureSource Ultra II)Another 0.65 gpm / 125-gallon Frigidaire cartridge; a different physical cartridge for a different housing (zero overlap with FPPWFU01's compatibility list, and a "Push & Twist" installation action instead of "Push to lock"), so it is not interchangeable with the PWF-1.
WFPTU26 (PurePour WFPT)A 0.65 gpm / 125-gallon PurePour cartridge listed alongside FPPWFU01 on the same IAPMO R&T certificates, but Frigidaire publishes no live product page for it on frigidaire.com or frigidaire.ca — treat it as a separate part number, not confirmation of what appliance type it fits.
EPPWFU01 (PureAdvantage PWF-1)The Electrolux-branded equivalent, listed beside FPPWFU01 on the same IAPMO R&T certificates.
WF3CB (PureSource 3)An older, larger-capacity cartridge: 0.5 gpm and 200 gallons, with no VOC or PFOA/PFOS claim — but it does carry NSF/ANSI 401 claims (atenolol, ibuprofen, trimethoprim, microplastics), so the pharmaceutical/microplastics coverage is not unique to the PWF-1.
ULTRAWF (PureSource Ultra)0.65 gpm and 200 gallons, with a different claim set that includes MTBE and trihalomethanes but not PFOA/PFOS. Its NSF/ANSI 401 claims (atenolol, ibuprofen, trimethoprim, microplastics) are narrower than the PWF-1's nine-entry 401 list, lacking bisphenol A, estrone, naproxen, nonylphenol and phenytoin.
WF2CB (PureSource2 NGFC-2000)0.5 gpm and 400 gallons on an older claim set built around turbidity and ethylbenzene rather than PFOA/PFOS.

The Frigidaire FPPWFU01 and cartridges sold as compatible

The certification evidence on this page belongs to one part number. Four active Electrolux Home Products IAPMO R&T files — WP-14065 (NSF/ANSI 42-2022), WP-16165 (NSF/ANSI 53-2021), WP-30821 (NSF/ANSI 401-2023) and WP-30822 (CSA B483.1-2021) — name the row Brand Name "Frigidaire", Model Number "PurePour PWF-1", Replacement Component "FPPWFU01" specifically. A fifth active file, WP-14066 (NSF/ANSI/CAN 372-2022, Lead Free Water Filtration Product), lists "Frigidaire" / "PurePour PWF-1" at the model level, but its table has no Replacement Component column, so it does not name FPPWFU01 by itself — it speaks to the PurePour PWF-1 model generally rather than to this specific cartridge. Third-party cartridges advertised as compatible with FPPWFU01 are not covered by any of these five files, and we make no certification claim about them either way: only a dated lookup of that cartridge's own model in the NSF, IAPMO R&T and WQA directories could speak to it. Note also that the sibling cartridges sharing these certificates — FPPWFU02, EPTWFU01, EPPWFU01, WFPTU26 — are listed in their own right, so their claims are theirs, not inherited from this one.[1][2][3][4][5]

Frigidaire FPPWFU01 questions, answered

What water filter is compatible with FPPWFU01?

FPPWFU01 is itself the filter — it is the replacement cartridge for Frigidaire's PurePour PWF-1 system, and the question is really which refrigerators take it. Frigidaire publishes a Works With These Models list of 40 refrigerators for FPPWFU01, spanning the Frigidaire FRFC/FRFG/FRFN/FRFS/FRMS/FRSC/FRSS series, the Gallery GRBN/GRFC/GRFG/GRFN/GRFS/GRMN/GRMS/GRSC/GRSN/GRSS series, and the Professional FPRU/PRFC/PRFG/PRFS/PRMC/PRMS/PRSC series. Frigidaire also sells other cartridges under other names — EPTWFU01, WF3CB, ULTRAWF and FPPWFU02 among them — and they are not all one-for-one interchangeable with the PWF-1, though FPPWFU01's and FPPWFU02's own compatibility lists do overlap on at least two refrigerators. Match the refrigerator's own model number to Frigidaire's published list rather than assuming any PurePour cartridge will seat.

Can I use a generic water filter in my Frigidaire refrigerator?

Verified health claim

A third-party cartridge may fit, but it does not inherit this one's certification. IAPMO R&T's four active files name the OEM part specifically — Brand Name Frigidaire, Model Number PurePour PWF-1, Replacement Component FPPWFU01 — but the same four files also list FPPWFU02, EPTWFU01, EPPWFU01, WFPTU26, WF2CB, WF3CB and ULTRAWF as separate models with their own replacement components; only the FPPWFU01 row is the certification record for this part. A compatible cartridge from another maker can only be judged by its own dated lookup in the NSF, IAPMO R&T and WQA directories under its own model number; we make no claim about any particular one. On r/Appliances, a 2024-02-08 comment called a different Frigidaire OEM filter — the PurePour Connect PWF-2, not this PWF-1/FPPWFU01 — “$50 per 6 months seems excessive,” and a 2024-11-30 comment on the same thread posted a Yatker cartridge compatible with FPPWFU01 at “$35 for a 2 pack as of now,” about $17.50 each, roughly a third of that 2024 PWF-2 figure. Those are 2024 prices for a different OEM model, not a same-part comparison and not current pricing; as of 2026-09-10 the OEM FPPWFU01 itself runs $58.75 on Amazon. The thread's original poster ended up buying OEM and signing up for a subscribe-and-save.

How to install a Frigidaire water filter FPPWFU01?

Four steps, no tools: push the current cartridge to release it and discard it, slide the new cartridge into the housing and push until it locks in place, run water through the dispenser for about three minutes or 1.5 gallons to prime the filter and discard that water, then replace it again every six months or 125 gallons. Frigidaire's specification table records the installation action as "Push to lock". Frigidaire publishes no separate Use & Care manual for the cartridge — it directs owners to the refrigerator's own Use & Care Guide.

How long should a Frigidaire water filter last?

Verified health claim

For the FPPWFU01, six months or 125 gallons, whichever comes first — Frigidaire's Performance Data Sheet states it as a requirement, not a suggestion: "You MUST replace the disposable filter cartridge every 6 months or sooner." Frigidaire shortens that for larger households in its own guide: every three months for five or more people, four months for four people, six months for three, assuming half a gallon per person per day and 60% of it drawn through the dispenser. The data sheet warns that leaving a spent cartridge in place can reduce performance and lead to filter failure, water leakage or flooding, and that the certified reduction figures assume the recommended replacement schedule is followed.

Is the Frigidaire FPPWFU01 NSF certified?

Verified health claim

Not by NSF itself, on the evidence of NSF's own directory: a search of NSF's Drinking Water Treatment Units listings on 2026-09-03 returned “No Matching Products Found” for FPPWFU01, for PurePour, for PWF-1, and for Electrolux and Frigidaire as company and trade names, while a control search in the same directory returned results normally. The cartridge is certified by IAPMO R&T — an accredited certifier equivalent to NSF, testing to the same standards — against NSF/ANSI 42, NSF/ANSI 53, NSF/ANSI 401 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372, plus CSA B483.1; and by WQA under WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-803 for sustainability. Frigidaire's own product copy says “NSF & WQA certified”, and Amazon's own specification table for this listing repeats a similar claim in the retailer's own words: “External Testing Certification NSF 42 - Reduces aesthetic impurities, NSF 53 - Reduces contaminants with health effects, NSF 401 - Reduces 1 or more of 15 emerging contaminants.” The accurate statement is that the reduction claims are certified to NSF/ANSI standards by IAPMO R&T.

Does the Frigidaire FPPWFU01 reduce PFAS?

Verified health claim

It carries a certified PFOA/PFOS claim — two of the PFAS compounds, not PFAS as a class. IAPMO R&T's NSF/ANSI 53-2021 listing for Frigidaire / PurePour PWF-1 / FPPWFU01 includes "PFOA/PFOS" among its reduction claims, and Frigidaire's Performance Data Sheet gives the test conditions: a challenge concentration of 1.5 µg/L ±10% for perfluorooctanoic acid and perfluorooctane sulfonate, reduced to a maximum permissible 0.02 µg/L. No other PFAS compound appears on the certificate or the data sheet, so nothing here speaks to PFBS, PFHxS, GenX or the wider family.

Sources: [1][2]

Does the Frigidaire FPPWFU01 soften hard water?

No — and there is no claim anywhere that it does. Frigidaire's Performance Data Sheet has no hardness, calcium, magnesium or scale entry in either its Substance Reduction table or its VOC Reduction table, and none of the four IAPMO R&T certificates that list FPPWFU01 carries a hardness or softening claim. Softening is a separate treatment class from the adsorption this cartridge does, and it needs a softener plumbed into the house supply rather than a cartridge inside the refrigerator.

Sources: [1][2]

Why won't my new FPPWFU01 filter click into place?

Frigidaire publishes no answer to this, and that is worth knowing before you buy several at once. Its own procedure is simply to slide the cartridge into the housing and push until it locks. But owners report new cartridges that slide in and never latch while the outgoing cartridge still seats perfectly: in one r/appliancerepair thread, posted 2024-09-08, the original poster had three cartridges from a single four-pack all fail to lock, and a commenter replying about fifteen months later, on 2025-11-30, said they had been trying to work it out for a year. A separate r/appliancerepair thread covers the opposite failure — a cartridge that will not release — where the in-thread advice is that the push-to-release mechanism can be very stiff and that shutting off the supply and pressing the dispenser paddle first relieves line pressure. We have not seen a manufacturer-confirmed cause or fix for either, so treat this as a known, unexplained failure mode rather than a solved problem.

Sources and data report: Frigidaire FPPWFU01

Every figure above is taken from the highest-trust source that carries it and re-derived from that source by a separate check. How we verify product data.

What we could not establish, and why

FieldWhy it is blank
mechanism.treatmentMethodsFrigidaire publishes no treatment train for the PurePour PWF-1. The Performance Data Sheet refers only to "adsorption media" without naming it; the General Specifications tables on frigidaire.com and frigidaire.ca list flow, capacity, pressure and temperature but no medium and no micron rating; and the four IAPMO R&T certificates carry claims, flow and capacity but no media description. Recording activated-carbon would be an inference from the claim set, not a published fact.
fit.bathroomsServedDoes not apply to a cartridge that sits inside one refrigerator and serves only its dispenser; Frigidaire publishes no bathroom rating and one would be meaningless. The key is required by FitSchema, so it is null rather than absent.
fit.householdSizeFrigidaire publishes a family-size table (5+ people every 3 months, 4 every 4 months, 3 every 6 months) but it is replacement-interval guidance built on a 0.5 gallon/person/day assumption, not a rating for how large a household the cartridge serves. Reading it as a household-size rating would misstate what Frigidaire published.
fit.roOutputGpdDoes not apply: the PurePour PWF-1 is not a reverse-osmosis system and Frigidaire publishes no gpd figure. The key is required by FitSchema.
fit.roTankCapacityDoes not apply: no reverse-osmosis membrane and no storage tank. The key is required by FitSchema.
fit.dimensionsFrigidaire publishes only RETAIL PACKAGING dimensions (9 1/2" x 2 3/10" x 2 3/10" on frigidaire.ca), not cartridge dimensions. Amazon's detail table repeats the same three figures as "Product Dimensions", which is a retailer restatement of the packaging figures and weaker than the brand's own labelling; using either as the cartridge's size would be a guess.
fit.connectionSizeDoes not apply and is not published: the cartridge seats into the refrigerator's own housing with a push-to-lock action rather than onto a plumbed fitting, and no Frigidaire document states a connection size. The key is required by FitSchema.
fit.requiresElectricityNo Frigidaire document states whether the cartridge itself requires power. Its four-step installation procedure mentions no electrical step, but absence of a step is not a published statement, and inferring false from it would breach the honest-null rule.
fit.requiresDrainSame as requiresElectricity: Frigidaire's installation and care instructions describe no drain connection, but no document states that none is required, so no cited value can be given.
cost.wasteRatioDoes not apply: a dead-end refrigerator cartridge produces no reject stream, and no Frigidaire document publishes a waste-to-product ratio. The key is required by CostSchema.
cost.warrantyFrigidaire publishes no cartridge-specific warranty term. The Performance Data Sheet defers to the refrigerator's Use & Care Manual ("See Use & Care Manual for Warranty information"), neither frigidaire.com's product page nor frigidaire.ca's Owner Centre page states a term, and Amazon's detail table gives only "Manufacturer Warranty Description: Limited", which carries no duration.
cost.moneyBackGuaranteeFrigidaire advertises no satisfaction guarantee on this cartridge. Google's shopping snippet shows a 10-day return window on frigidaire.com and 90 days at Home Depot and Lowe's, but those are retailer return policies rather than a manufacturer money-back guarantee, and both retailers blocked direct verification.
install.estimatedHoursFrigidaire gives a duration for one step only — run the dispenser for about three minutes to prime the new cartridge — and no total installation time for the swap. Converting the priming time into a whole-job estimate would be arithmetic on a number that does not measure the job.
seo.verificationStamped by the verify loop, not by research. Null until the §5 pass has run against this record.
