Our verdict on the Frizzlife MS99

The Frizzlife MS99 is a twist-in-cartridge inline water filter for a refrigerator, ice maker, or single under-sink line, genuinely certified by IAPMO R&T as of 2026-09-11 against NSF/ANSI 42 (chlorine, taste & odor, particulate) and NSF/ANSI 53 (lead, cyst) — but Frizzlife's own marketing goes well beyond that, claiming reduction of PFAS/PFOA/PFOS, chromium 6, mercury and VOCs that neither listing covers.[1][2][3][4][5]

Best for

  • Refrigerators, ice makers, or a single under-sink cold-water line on municipal tap water, where a twist-in inline cartridge certified for chlorine taste & odor, particulate, lead, and cyst reduction (IAPMO R&T, against NSF/ANSI 42 & 53) is wanted in place of an expensive OEM refrigerator cartridge.
  • Buyers who only need the specific certified reduction scope — chlorine taste & odor, particulate, lead, and cyst — and will not rely on this filter for PFAS, chromium 6, mercury, VOCs, or any other contaminant Frizzlife markets but no directory lists.

Not for

  • Private well water or any water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality — the manual rates the MS99 for municipal water only.
  • Buyers who need certified PFAS/PFOA/PFOS, chromium 6, mercury, or VOC reduction: neither of the MS99's two contaminant-reduction IAPMO R&T listings (NSF/ANSI 42 or 53) names any of these, despite Frizzlife's own Amazon listing and product-page marketing claiming several of them.
  • Installations outside 20-80 psi feed pressure or 41-122°F feed temperature, or any location where the filter could freeze — the manual specifies these limits and warns that freezing can crack the housing and cause a leak.

What the Frizzlife MS99 does not do

The MS99 has two contaminant-reduction IAPMO R&T listings, covering exactly two standards: NSF/ANSI 42 (chlorine, taste & odor, particulate class 1) and NSF/ANSI 53 (lead, cyst), each tested at a 0.5 GPM flow rate over an 800-gallon cartridge capacity. (A third IAPMO file, W-29648, covers NSF/ANSI/CAN 372, a materials lead-content requirement rather than a contaminant-reduction claim.) Frizzlife's own marketing claims substantially more: the frizzlife.com product page's Key Features bullet claims reduction of “LEAD, HEAVY METALS, CHLORINE, CHROMIUM 6, MERCURY, RUST, VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS, CARCINOGENS and other contaminants, turbidity, odors & bad taste” and “over 99.99% of contaminants”, and the Amazon listing's Special Feature field claims “PFAS, PFOA/PFOS” reduction. Chromium 6, mercury, VOCs, rust, PFAS, PFOA/PFOS, and any general “carcinogens” or “turbidity” claim are not on either listing. A separate, narrower Amazon bullet (“Reduce Lead, Chlorine, Taste & Odor and Particulates”) does match what is actually certified. The Frizzlife MS99's recorded operating limits are Feed water pressure at least 20 psi and up to 80 psi, Feed water temperature at least 41 degrees F and up to 122 degrees F, IAPMO-certified contaminant-reduction capacity (FZ-2 cartridge, both NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 listings) up to 800 gallons, IAPMO-certified test flow rate (both NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 listings) up to 0.5 gpm, FZ-2 cartridge recommended replacement interval (manual) at least 6 months and up to 8 months, verified 2026-09-11.

IAPMO-certified contaminant-reduction capacity (FZ-2 cartridge, both NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 listings)up to 800 gallons[1][2]This is the certifier's own tested capacity figure, measured in gallons rather than months. Ranking it against the manual's 6-8 month replacement schedule or the other month-based figures Frizzlife publishes elsewhere would require a daily-usage rate, which no cited source states for this model, so no such comparison is drawn here.

IAPMO-certified test flow rate (both NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 listings)up to 0.5 gpm[1][2][3]This is the flow rate at which the certifier validated the reduction claims. It is well below the 1.5 GPM operating flow rate Frizzlife's own manual and product-page spec table advertise for the system, and below the 1.4 GPM @ 40psi figure in a separate Key Features bullet. Neither the manual nor the IAPMO listing states that the certified reduction performance also holds at the higher marketed operating flow.

FZ-2 cartridge recommended replacement interval (manual)at least 6 months and up to 8 months[1][2]The manual's own Filter Cartridge Replacement table gives 6-8 months. This conflicts with other Frizzlife-published figures for the same FZ-2 cartridge on this same page: the Description tab says “Replace the inner filter per 3-6 months”, the Replacement Filters module says “Lifespan: 6-12 Months”, the Key Features bullet advertises “2-year advanced filtration service, 5X longer than most conventional refrigerator filters”, and the product-page FAQ says filter life “can be 6 month to 2 years” while separately recommending “1 year or less”. The manual is used as the authoritative figure per source trust order; the conflicting marketing figures are not carried into the cost or fit fields.

Do not buy it for these situations

  • Well waterFrizzlife rates the MS99 for municipal water only, and the manual warns against water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection. Private well supplies fall outside the rated water source.[1]

    Primary sourceVerified 2026-09-11Manufacturer datasheet

  • Water pressureRequires feed water pressure between 20 psi and 80 psi. Below 20 psi the system is under its rated minimum; above 80 psi it exceeds the manual's specification.[1]

    Primary sourceVerified 2026-09-11Manufacturer datasheet

  • RentersInstallation is a compression-fitting job, not a tool-free setup: the manual's Required Tools list an adjustable wrench, a screwdriver, a variable-speed drill, and a utility knife, and both installation methods start by mounting a bracket to a wooden plate with screws. A renter who cannot drill into a cabinet or wall cannot install this system without landlord permission.[1]

What owners praise

  • Reviewers repeatedly describe the installation as easy and the flow rate as fast, and several say the filter noticeably improved drinking-water and ice taste and clarity compared to their previous OEM refrigerator filter.[1]

What owners complain about

  • Leakage is the most contested theme in the reviews: Amazon's own review-highlights module shows leakage mentioned by 19 customers, split 8 positive (no leaks) and 11 negative (leaks), most often attributed to the brass compression fittings.[1]

    Secondary sourceVerified 2026-09-11Amazon review

  • One 4-star reviewer tried changing the cartridge with the water left on, as Frizzlife's directions say is possible. Removing the cartridge sprayed water immediately, and reinstalling it under live pressure was, in the reviewer's words, “almost impossible” — the head unit kept popping off its wall mount. The reviewer concluded that the water supply should be shut off before changing the filter after all.[1]

The Frizzlife MS99 against its family and its rivals

The Frizzlife MS99 has 5 siblings in its family: MK99, MP99, MV99, SP99, SK99.

Frizzlife's IAPMO R&T files W-11830 (NSF/ANSI 42) and W-11831 (NSF/ANSI 53) list MP99, MK99, MS99 and MV99 together at an identical 800-gallon, 0.5 GPM rating using the FZ-2 replacement component, and separately list SP99 and SK99 at a 945-gallon, 1.5 GPM rating using different components (M3001, M3002, M3003). A third file, W-29648 (NSF/ANSI 372, a materials lead-content standard, not a contaminant-reduction one), lists all six of the same models. Because MP99, MK99, MS99 and MV99 share identical figures on both contaminant-reduction files, the certified reduction scope found for the MS99 (chlorine, taste & odor, particulate under NSF/ANSI 42; lead, cyst under NSF/ANSI 53) extends to MP99, MK99 and MV99 as listed — but not to SP99 or SK99, which are rated differently on the same files, and not to any other Frizzlife model not named on these three files.[1][2][3]

The rest of the family

ModelWhat differs
MK99Under-sink direct-connect water filter system instead of a refrigerator/ice-maker inline filter, but shares the same FZ-2 cartridge and the same IAPMO R&T listings (800 gallons, 0.5 GPM, NSF/ANSI 42 & 53) as the MS99.
MP99Under-sink water filter system with its own dedicated drinking faucet, versus the MS99's inline install ahead of a refrigerator or under-sink cold line; shares the same FZ-2 cartridge and certified reduction claims.
MV99Marketed as an RV water filter system rather than a home refrigerator inline filter; shares the same FZ-2 cartridge and certified reduction claims.
SP99Higher certified capacity and flow than the MS99 (945 gallons at 1.5 GPM vs. the MS99's 800 gallons at 0.5 GPM per the IAPMO listings) using different replacement components (M3001, M3002, M3003 vs. the MS99's single FZ-2).
SK99Same higher-capacity 945-gallon, 1.5 GPM certified rating and M3001/M3002/M3003 replacement components as the SP99, distinct from the MS99's 800-gallon, 0.5 GPM FZ-2 rating.

Frizzlife MS99 questions, answered

Is the Frizzlife MS99 NSF certified?

Verified health claim

Yes, genuinely — the MS99 has two real IAPMO R&T listings, but each covers a narrower scope than Frizzlife's own marketing suggests. A live check of all three certifier directories on 2026-09-11 found the MS99 listed on two contaminant-reduction files (plus a third, W-29648, that covers NSF/ANSI/CAN 372, a materials lead-content requirement rather than a reduction claim): IAPMO R&T file W-11830 to NSF/ANSI 42-2023 for chlorine, taste & odor, and particulate reduction, and file W-11831 to NSF/ANSI 53-2024 for lead and cyst reduction — both tested at a 0.5 GPM flow rate over an 800-gallon cartridge capacity. Neither the NSF nor the WQA directory listed the MS99 that day. Frizzlife's product-page Key Features bullet and Amazon's Special Feature field go further, claiming reduction of chromium 6, mercury, VOCs, rust, PFAS, and PFOA/PFOS — none of which appear on either certified listing.

Sources: [1][2][3][4][5]

Does the Frizzlife MS99 remove PFAS?

Verified health claim

No certified evidence supports that. Amazon's product-details “Special Feature” field for this listing claims “0.5μm Deep Filtration to reduce Lead, chlorine, PFAS, PFOA/PFOS”, but neither of the MS99's two contaminant-reduction IAPMO R&T listings (NSF/ANSI 42 or NSF/ANSI 53) names PFAS, PFOA, or PFOS among its reduction claims, and no listing was found in the NSF or WQA directories as of 2026-09-11 either.

Sources: [1][2][3]

Can I use the Frizzlife MS99 on well water?

Verified health claim

No. The manual lists municipal water as the MS99's only applicable water source, and warns against using it with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection — a condition private well water cannot be assumed to meet.

Sources: [1]

How long does a Frizzlife MS99 filter cartridge last?

The manual's own replacement table says 6-8 months for the FZ-2 cartridge, but Frizzlife publishes several other, conflicting figures for this same cartridge elsewhere on its own site: the product description gives a shorter “3-6 months”, the Replacement Filters module says “6-12 Months”, the Key Features bullet advertises a much longer “2-year advanced filtration service”, and the product FAQ says life “can be 6 month to 2 years” while recommending “1 year or less”. The IAPMO R&T certified test capacity is 800 gallons, a different, gallons-based figure. This record uses the manual's 6-8 month range as the authoritative source, per the manufacturer-datasheet-over-marketing-copy source trust order.

Sources: [1][2][3]

Do I need to shut off the water to replace the Frizzlife MS99 filter?

Frizzlife says no — the manual describes an auto shut-off design in the filter head that closes an internal valve when the cartridge is twisted out, so the water supply does not need to be shut off first. But one 4-star Amazon reviewer who tried it that way reported the opposite in practice: removing the cartridge sprayed water immediately, reinstalling it under live pressure was “almost impossible” as the head unit kept popping off its wall mount, and the reviewer concluded the water should in fact be shut off before changing the filter.

Sources: [1][2]

Does the Frizzlife MS99 need electricity or a drain line?

No to both. Frizzlife's own spec table lists “Electricity Required: No”, and the manual's parts list and both installation methods route only a supply line and a filtered-water line into the filter — there is no drain or waste-water connection.

Sources: [1][2]

Will the Frizzlife MS99 fit my water line?

It's built for a standard 3/8" US water supply connection. If your line is 1/2", Frizzlife tells buyers to separately purchase its NTP01 adapter — it is not included in the box. The system ships with both PEX tubing and lead-free compression brass fittings that also accept flexible copper tubing.

Sources and data report: Frizzlife MS99

Every figure above is taken from the highest-trust source that carries it and re-derived from that source by a separate check. How we verify product data.

What we could not establish, and why

FieldWhy it is blank
mechanism.treatmentMethodsFrizzlife's product page states “Filter Level: 2-Stage Filtration” and lists “Purification Method: Activated Carbon, Carbon Block” for the single FZ-2 “2-in-1 Composite Filter” cartridge, but no source — brand page, manual, or IAPMO listing — names two distinct media or treatment-method-vocabulary stages for this one cartridge (unlike frizzlife-ds99, whose manual names two separate physical filter elements). Recording one activated-carbon stage would contradict the brand's own “2-Stage Filtration” claim, and assigning a second vocabulary slug to an undocumented stage would be a guess, so the field is left null rather than approximated.
identity.familyFrizzlife's own site categorizes the MS99 under a standalone “Refrigerator Filters” nav section, not under a named product series; the site's “M Series Single-Stage Filters” nav category covers the under-sink MK99/MP99 form factors but does not include MS99, and no source names a formal family for this specific model.
identity.upcNo UPC/barcode was published on frizzlife.com's MS99 product page or found in Amazon's product-information table for ASIN B08NY78DC3.
fit.bathroomsServedA single inline point-of-use filter serves one appliance or line, not a count of bathrooms; neither the manual nor the product page publishes a bathroom rating, and none was inferred.
fit.householdSizeFrizzlife publishes cartridge capacity (800 gallons certified; 6-8 months per the manual) but no household-size rating for the MS99 in the manual, the spec table, or the Amazon listing.
fit.roOutputGpdThe MS99 is a single-cartridge carbon-block inline filter with no reverse-osmosis membrane, so RO permeate output does not apply.
fit.roTankCapacityThe MS99 has no pressure tank; the manual's parts list is a wrench, tubing, fittings, the filter system, one FZ-2 cartridge, plumber tape and a blade.
cost.wasteRatioThe MS99 is a single-cartridge inline filter with no reverse-osmosis membrane or waste stream; the manual's installation instructions route only supply and filtered-water connections, no waste or drain line, so a waste:product ratio does not apply. Recorded as fit.requiresDrain = false instead.
install.estimatedHoursNeither the manual nor the product page publishes an installation time estimate. The manual's only timed step is a 5-10 minute post-install/post-replacement flush, so no total duration was recorded.
seo.cluster.primary.kdThe approved build-list row supplies no keyword-difficulty value, and no live Ahrefs check was run for this job (a prior run against the same account reported the API units exhausted); no measured value could replace it and none was estimated.
seo.verificationThe independent verification loop, not the research pass, stamps this field.

    • The Amazon listing for ASIN B08NY78DC3 (confirmed to be this exact MS99 system by its title and product-details table) shows “In Stock” repeatedly on 2026-09-11, with “200+ bought in past month”.
    • Product-details “Special Feature” field: “0.5μm Deep Filtration to reduce Lead, chlorine, PFAS, PFOA/PFOS, Certified by IAPMO against NSF/ANSI 53 & 42, easy installation, easy filter replacement”.
    • Special Feature field: “0.5μm Deep Filtration to reduce Lead, chlorine, PFAS, PFOA/PFOS, Certified by IAPMO against NSF/ANSI 53 & 42...”.
    • A separate bullet reads: “【Certified Premium Filtration Performance】...Reduce Lead, Chlorine, Taste & Odor and Particulates.”, which does match the certified scope.
    • Product details table: “Product Dimensions 5"L x 5"W x 13.5"H”, explicitly labeling 13.5 in as height.
    • Frizzlife's own spec table independently lists the same three numbers as “Dimensions 13.5"L x 5"W x 5"H” (labeling 13.5 in as length rather than height); the two sources agree on the three physical measurements and disagree only on which axis label to apply, so Amazon's explicit height label is used here.

    • Amazon's “Exclusive Prime price” panel shows the non-Prime one-time price as $75.99, identical to Frizzlife's own site price; a separate $72.19 (5% off) or $68.39 (10% off, Subscribe & Save) price is only available to signed-in Prime members.

    • Installation Methods 1 and 2 describe a homeowner-level compression-fitting install using an adjustable wrench, screwdriver and drill; no plumber is called for.
    • Filter Cartridge Replacement table page 11: FZ-2, 6-8 months. The upper bound (8 months) is used as the point estimate; the full 6-8 month range and the conflicting marketing figures are recorded in effectivenessBounds.

    • Installation requires shutting off the water supply, disconnecting a cold water line, attaching a feed water valve, mounting a bracket with screws (drill), running and cutting PEX or copper tubing, connecting compression fittings, and flushing for 5-10 minutes — more involved than a twist-on countertop or aerator-adapter filter, but described as self-installable within the manual's two methods.

Please flush the new cartridge for 5-10 minutes before starting to use.”
    • Maintenance, page 12: “Check the system and water pipe fittings regularly for water leakage to avoid any property damage.”
    • Limited Product Warranty, page 12: “The plastic housings should be replaced every 18 months.”
    • Filter Cartridge Replacement page 11: “You don't need to cut off the water supply, since the system adopts auto shut off design.”
