Boil water advisories in West Virginia

West Virginia: 27 water systems under an active boil water advisory.

We read this state's own advisory list

The agency that publishes it
West Virginia OEHS
What that list covers
Boil water notices published statewide by the West Virginia Office of Environmental Health Services, read from the data feed behind its Boil Water Notices page. Each notice names the water system by its EPA water-system ID, and a system can have several notices at once, one per street or area affected. A notice ends when OEHS publishes its lift date: one that leaves the feed without a lift date is not treated as lifted. Notices issued within the last 90 days are read; a notice with no lift date reads "no lift reported" after 14 days and leaves the active count after 30 days, without being marked lifted.

On our last read, this list showed 27 water systems under a boil water or do-not-drink notice it had not recorded as lifted.

Active boil water advisories

Older notices without a reported lift

These notices are more than 30 days old and the agency has published no lift for them. We have not marked them lifted, because the agency has not said they ended, and they are not counted in this page's active totals. The agency's own record is the authority for each one.

Recently lifted

Advisories the agency recorded as lifted within the last 14 days. The lift date is the agency's own, not the date we noticed the advisory had gone from its list.

Questions about this page

Does this page list every boil water advisory in West Virginia?
It lists what West Virginia OEHS's own statewide list showed when we last read it, one entry per water system rather than one per notice. A notice a utility issued directly, and never sent to that list, would not appear here.
Where are boil water advisories for West Virginia published?
West Virginia OEHS publishes them, and its own statewide list is the list we read into this page on an hourly cycle. The link to it is on this page.
How many water systems does this page cover?
Our database holds 274 public water systems in West Virginia. That is a count of what is in our database, not a count of every public water system in the state. Advisories are counted by water system, keyed on the system's federal identifier, and never by the number of separate notices one system has been given.
Is anything on this page a verdict about whether the water is safe?
This is not a statement that your water is safe. It means the state's list did not name your system. Your utility is the authority for your own water.
